Decades Project: 1950s Movie–The Day the Earth Stood Still

One of the greatest sci-fi films ever. I watched this when I was a teenager. I was reading lots of science fiction, mostly Star Wars books, but also stuff by Carl Sagan, and knew this was a movie that people always mentioned (I think Sagan references it a few times in his books).

I think back then I was amazed at how people reacted to Klaatu. It felt so weird that people would shoot at him. But nowadays, I totally could see it. In our hyperpartisan society, people would hear Klaatu’s message and be screaming about him being woke or maybe an intergalactic fascist.

If you have never watched this classic, I highly recommend giving it a chance. The 2008 remake with Keanu was alright, but nowhere near the original.
