The Evolution of My Shower

Not my shower

I was in the shower today and I realized something weird. Over the past decade, I have totally changed my shower routine. Yeah, I know, this is some riveting information, but whatever, I needed to take a break from all the football posts (and the other posts I am working on this week).

For the majority of my life, I would get into the shower, turn the water on, press myself against the wall to avoid the cold water, then take an insanely fast shower, then get out, dry off, and get dressed. This routine started because my dad was insane about using the hot water. I swear we had the smallest hot water tank in the country. It must have held five gallons of water. I am not kidding. If we were showering for more than five minutes, he was banging on the door. After that, he would open the closet and turn the hot water valve off.

My body was conditioned to shower like this. Then I started dating Lindsey, and she would turn the shower on and leave it run for a minute or five until it was nice and warm, then hop in. Over the years she has rubbed off on me, and now I do it too. Maybe not to her extreme, but I no longer like turning the water on, then jumping out of the way to avoid ice-cold water.

Since we remodeled the bathrooms in this house, I have changed my routine a little bit as well. I usually turn on the water and heater, then I put in my contacts. I hop in the shower, and do some scrubbing. Once I rinse off, I like to stand there, and relax. I have now bumped those showers from under five minutes, to probably seven or eight minutes. Sometimes even ten. After the shower, I dry off, clean my ears, brush my teeth, and put on deodorant. I do not know why I changed, but once you establish a routine, it can be hard to shake it.

Now you have a little more information about my shower habits, don’t you wish I would write more about football?
