Trip to Columbus

Last week we took a little trip to Columbus. You know, the capital of Ohio. Also the home of Ohio State University. Ugh. I knew it was going to be tough to stomach seeing so much scarlet and gray everywhere. Well boy, I had no idea how right I was!

On Wednesday, I was having some tummy issues while at work. I do not want to give you details, but I made many trips to the bathroom. When I woke up on Thursday though, I thought I was feeling a little better, I had trouble sleeping all night because I was in and out of the bathroom, but it did not seem like it was getting worse that day. We left early in the morning, and went to The Wilds, which is a safari park with tours to see a bunch of endangered animals. 

The place was awesome. I would definitely recommend it, and would love to go back and maybe spend the night there. There were a bunch of animals that I never heard of, such as dhole, bantang, takin, and Pere David’s deer…just to name a few. The tour guide was knowledgeable and funny with his little stories. 

Anyways, during the tour, my tum-tum was on it’s best behavior, but then after dinner, I ended up just living in the bathroom at the hotel. The next day we got up early and the plan was to head to the Columbus Zoo. I was up most of the night, and there were times when my stomach hurt so bad that I thought I may need to go to a doctor. 

I decided to give it a try though. We went to the zoo, and I basically made it into the entrance, had to run to the bathroom twice, asked Lindsey for the keys, and went back to the hotel. I then came back to pick them up towards the end of the day. The rest of that day was absolutely awful. Again, no details, but I am sure you have been reading the news about the parasite. Use your imagination.

The next day, the family went back to the zoo (it is a large zoo, so two days is definitely needed). I actually dropped them off, then went to see a doctor at an urgent care. I found one that was run by Ohio State. It was extremely nice. Like disgustingly nice. And the people were super nice. Ughhhhh. I have to stop saying bad staff about the Buckeyes now. Maybe.

The doctor listened to me for a few minutes, mostly talking about my poop. And she was like “well, it sounds like it could be a stomach bug, but since we have had so many cases of the parasite, I am inclined to believe that is what it is. We could send out for a test, but it takes four days. Or we can just give you antibiotics to clear it up, and you will be better in around five days.” I took the antibiotics. I actually felt better a day or two later.

So yeah, my trip to Columbus was fantastic. The rest of the family had a great time. Payton and Logan loved the zoo. Lindsey took like 1200 pictures of animals…and I suffered with some kind of weird parasite.

Quick side note. I did not know that Columbus was as big of a city as it is. I would not have guessed it was Ohio’s largest city (I would have bet solid money on Cincinnati), and I definitely did not expect to learn that it is the 14th largest city in America. Crazy! Also, the area we stayed in was near the zoo, called Dublin. It was very nice, and at one point when I was trying to find food for myself after not eating for a day, I stopped at a diner called HangOverEasy. They have like six locations in Ohio. I definitely recommend going to one.
