Lightsabers are the soul of the Star Wars universe. The fight scenes are the thing we look forward to in every movie and show. The sound of the lightsaber igniting (snap-hiss was the onomatopoeia in the books and comics) gives me chills and makes my heart start pounding with excitement. Here are my top ten lightsaber battles from the movies and shows.
10. Anakin Skywalker & Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Savage Opress
Savage Opress is the brother of Darth Maul, but he is even more…savage. He has a few great fights with Anakin and Obi-Wan during The Clone Wars. Every time they had an encounter it would usually end with the Jedi getting their asses kicked.
9. Ezra Bridger & Kanan Jarrus vs. Darth Vader
The first season ends with Kanan and Ezra defeating the Grand Inquistor, who tells them that they have unleashed something terrible on themselves. The season two premiere does not disappoint. Our heroes meet Darth Vader and we get a chance to see how woefully unprepared they are to face off against a Sith Lord.
8. Ahsoka Tano vs. Darth Maul
Darth Maul pops up in Rebels and constantly just wreaks havoc. I think Ahsoka makes her debut by saving Kanan and Ezra from Maul. She fights with Maul multiple times and Ahsoka proves she is one of the best with a lightsaber over and over again. Also, Kanan fighting blind is one of those feel good moments.
7. Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Maul
It is an incredibly short fight. I think fans expected a more drawn out battle, but the way Obi-Wan ends Maul shows that he was truly the master and that he fought for more than the Sith Lord.
6. Darth Vader vs. Rebel Troops
The end of Rogue One is absolutely incredible. The breathing, then the lightsaber ignites and you just know that everyone is completely screwed. Vader does not disappoint. He mows down the troops like they are nothing.
5. Luke Skywalker vs. Dark Troopers
You cannot have the Vader scene without the Luke scene from The Mandalorian. Luke is totally badass in this scene and it is definitely what we fans deserved.
4. Ahsoka Tano vs. Darth Vader
“I am no Jedi.” Everything about this fight is nearly perfect and sad. I think the only thing that could have made it better had been if when Vader calls out to her, if he had called her Snips instead of Ahsoka.
3. Anakin Skywalker vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Say what you want about the prequels, but they knew how to do lightsaber battles. The idea of this battle had been in fans minds for years and The Revenge of the Sith did not disappoint.
2. Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker
Vader vs. Luke. The fight in The Empire Strikes Back used to rank as one of the best sword fights of all-time back in the day. The scene ends with the biggest reveal of any movie ever (okay, maybe a little much, but pretty close). Then the rematch in Return of the Jedi is equally incredible.
1. Darth Maul vs. Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan Kenobi
The music makes this fight scene incredible. But this was also the first time we ever saw a lightsaber battle that was fast and more martial arts oriented.
I am sure some of you will notice that there were none from the new trilogy. I guess a few of them could be in the honorable mentions. Or maybe The Rise of Skywalker warped my opinion of them and I ranked any fight scene from those movies lower. Anyways, how would you rank the lightsaber battles from Star Wars?
