Decades Project: 1980s Music–Intro to Hip-Hop

I was a young kid in the 1980s, but as the decade started to close, I went to school. I made friends, I know, some of you are shocked. I actually ended up being friends with some older kids in our neighborhood, and two of them introduced me to a few things that I probably would have not been exposed to at such a young age. One of those things was hip-hop (although, my uncle got me hooked on the Beastie Boys). 

These are some of the songs that these kids would bring over to the house and play in my basement when my parents were not around…

 I remember sitting in the basement thinking it was soooo cool to be listening to these songs with a couple of 6th graders. I think Dad may have heard 2 Live Crew and was unimpressed.

But listening to those songs helped me gain an appreciation for hip-hop, and I would listen to other stuff as a kid.
