Welcome Matt Campbell!

Penn State finally has a new head coach! The long, ugly nightmare that has been this coaching search looks to finally be coming to an end. And I want to take this time to welcome Matt Campbell as the new Nittany Lion head coach.
Some quick background on Coach Campbell. He is 46 years old, so a younger head coach. He is from Ohio, he played one year at Pitt, then transferred to Mount Union where he was a defensive lineman. One of his first Graduate Assistant jobs was at Bowling Green, he then went back to Mount Union for a few years. He came back to Bowling Green for two years, then got hired by Toledo. Within three years he was the Rockets head coach, where he led them to two first place finishes in the Western Division and a 35-15 record, while going 2-1 in bowl games.

From there he went to Iowa State. He has turned the Cyclones into a solid program. The resources are limited for them, but Campbell has proven he can do more with less. I believe his best ranked recruiting class was in the 40s. Here are some of his stats while at Iowa State…
72-55
3-4 in bowl games
4-6 vs. Top 10
11-19 vs. teams ranked 11-25
12-23 vs. higher ranked opponents
24-11 vs. lower or unranked teams
In my post about the coaching search back in October, I mentioned Campbell as one of the good idea hires. And I said this:
“He has proven that he can win in the Big Xii at traditional football powerhouse (THIS WAS SARCASM BTW) , Iowa State. He did well at Toledo. Urban Meyer wanted him on his staff at Ohio State, but Campbell decided to stay Toledo (and look, I may not like Meyer, but the man knows how to pick a staff). What I am saying is, I think Campbell would be a good hire.”
It was a crazy process, but we finally found our head coach. I am excited to see what Matt Campbell does now that he has more resources. Good luck Coach!
WE ARE!!!
