Not a Gamer…

I do not think anyone would ever consider me a “gamer.” You know, someone who plays a ton of video games (I know, a gamer can also play other types of games, but for the most part people consider a gamer someone who plays video games). I think the last time I wrote about a video game on this blog (aside from dumb phone games) was back in 2014

Santa brought the kids a Nintendo Switch for Christmas. We have been playing Mario Kart a good bit, and Logan loves playing a Ninja Turtle game we got for him. Last night I decided to download the Super NES because I was hoping to play Tecmo Super Bowl. People always talk about Tecmo Bowl, which was amazing for the original NES, but I absolutely loved playing Tecmo Super Bowl for the SNES.

Sadly, it was not on there (Tecmo Bowl is on there for the NES), but The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was there! I beat that game on my SNES when I was a kid, and figured it would probably be fairly easy nowadays. Yeah, I am so terrible at video games that it took me awhile to make it out of the first part of the game. I am going to keep playing it and beat it again. That is my goal. Then I may move onto the N64 games, which I beat the first one (Ocarina of Time), but not the next one (I cannot remember if I actually played it or not).

I should probably mention my history with video games…

I remember when the commercials for Nintendo games started playing when I was little. I remember seeing the robot and wanting one so bad. My parents got me a Nintendo for my birthday, and I remember that Zelda was being advertised with some weird commercials. My guess is that they got it for me in 1987, I was one of the first kids in school to have a Nintendo.

Right after I got it, my dad fell at work and broke his ribs. He was stuck on the couch for a few weeks, and we would play Zelda together. We beat it together, and years later when I got Link to the Past, we beat that together as well. Good times.

Then came the late 90s. I did not play video games after the SNES for some reason. But in high scool, the N64 was popular, and my brother wanted one. He also wanted a Playstation. So he convinced my mom to get him a Playstation for Christmas, but that I really wanted a N64 with the new Zelda game. Imagine my shock on Christmas opening up a Nintendo. Adam and his friend went out and purchased Goldeneye the next day and played it all during break. I eventually got a chance to play my game, and it took some time, but I did eventually beat it.

Years later, Adam bought me a pretty sweet Nintendo DS Zelda edition. I played Phantom Hourglass for a few months, but never could beat it. Eventually I forgot about the DS, and then when I started selling stuff on eBay, I decided to sell it. Since I had the box, and everything was in perfect condition, it started a bidding war, and I sold it for $400 (some collector wanted it for display).

I bought a PS2, and eventually traded it in for a PS3. Sadly, I was so terrible at games on it that I just gave up. I have not played video games since then.

I am hoping to eventually give the Breath of the Wild a chance. Maybe I could beat a modern game, that would be cool. Probably not, I am awful.
