Edgedancer

I read this novella while on the beach. It was pretty short, but thoroughly enjoyable. It fits between books two and three of the “Stormlight Archives” and focuses on the character, Lift. If you do not know the backstory, Lift started out in the second book as one of the interludes, but Sanderson enjoyed her so much that he featured her more prominently in the third book. I guess while writing the third book, he realized that he had a bit of a plot hole (mainly, how did Nale go from wanting to kill potential Radiants to stop the coming Everstorm, to admitting the Last Desolation is upon them). So Sanderson wrote Edgedancer to bridge the gap and give us more Lift.

Naturally he could not write a short novella without adding some new wrinkle to the mix. This book has tons of action. We see Szeth, Nale, Lift, and a few others doing cool, Radiant stuff. But we also meet Arclo. He is an Aimian and we get a little more information about them. Apparently this one is different than Axies the Collector. Arclo is made up of thousands of cremling-like creatures and wants to discuss philosophy. He defeats the two Skybreaker apprentices easily and tells Lift that his kind and the Radiants used to fight together.

That is one of the things I love about this series. Little bits from an interlude can have major significance or may be tied to another series. I need to listen to the other books in the cosmere.

If you enjoy the “Stormlight Archives” and would like to read more adventures of Lift, then pick up this novella.
