Sometimes there are things out there that make me really happy. Usually they are simple things. Like a cup of coffee in the morning. It is true when people say the simple things in life give you the greatest pleasure. I think Abraham Lincoln said that (he did not). Here are a few things that bring me some of that joy.
Oatmeal Cream Pies
I recently started eating these again. I used to eat these all the time when I was a kid. We always had a variety of Little Debbie snacks in our house growing up. I loved these, Swiss Cake Rolls, and a whole mess of other unhealthy snacks. I do not know what made me crave them, but I went through a box in a few days (I know Adam, you can do that in one sitting) and had to get another when we went to the store. It almost defeats the purpose of going to the gym. Almost.
Snopes
You may be asking yourself what is Snopes. It is probably one of my favorite websites. If one of your Facebook friends decides to link to an article claiming that eating pickles cures cancer, you can go to Snopes, type in pickles and it will give you all the urban legends about pickles and most likely you will find one about the cancer cure.
I love to find the debunked myth and post the link in the person’s comments. I remember one where my friend Ryan posted something supposedly written by George Carlin. It just did not seem like something that Carlin would write and sure enough, it turned out to be a hoax. I guess this makes me a bit of an asshole for always wanting to rain on my friend’s parade, but whatever. It makes me happy.
Finding Ringtones
My favorite thing to do when I get a new phone is trying to find new ringtones and set them for my friends and the different alerts such as new message, low battery. I try to be as unique and clever as possible. I spend hours doing this. You know the funny thing though? I never keep the sound on. My phone is always on silent.
Law & Order: SVU
I would never say that this is a great show. However, it is perfect for background noise. If I am doing stuff around the apartment, I love turning on SVU, which is always on USA and half paying attention. You can pretty much come in at any point in any episode and figure out what is happening after about thirty seconds.
Lindsey’s Fashion Sense
I am not making fun of her. Okay, I might be making fun of her a bit. Am I the only person that thinks these boots look rather silly with those pants? She would argue that we were just going to the gym and she would be changing her shoes anyway, but I still giggled at her when we went to Giant Eagle.
Hopefully everyone has a great weekend. If you are going to Penn State for THON, please remember to be kind to the restaurant staff you encounter. It is not their fault that the Bryce Jordan Center is at capacity at 6:00 a.m. and that no one is allowed in.
