2021 NFL Pick ‘Em: Playoffs Round 2 and the Steelers QB Search

I was 3-3 for last week, which was the best. Jon and Sean were close behind with two. I missed the underdog pick since the Steelers could not stop the Chiefs at all. My underdog special record dropped to 10-9 (+$45.53). And my Steelers record finished at 11-7 (hey, I said the Chiefs would win).

Cincinnati Bengals @ Tennessee Titans: Bengals (+3.5)
This is my underdog pick this week. I think this will be a high scoring game and the Bengals have Burrow and Chase, which in my opinion is the difference against Tannehill.

San Francisco 49ers @ Green Bay Packers: Packers (-6.0)
I think the Packers will probably destroy the 49ers. I feel like Rodgers is going to put on a clinic for them.

Los Angeles Rams @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Bucs (-3.0)
Tom Brady vs. Matthew Stafford. My prediction? Brady throws a few touchdowns to Gronk, Stafford throws a costly pick six.

Buffalo Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs: Chiefs (-2.0)
I know, everyone wants to take the Bills. I am going to be rooting for the Bills. But, I am not betting against Mahomes and the Chiefs.

The Steelers QB Search

It is crazy that we are already discussing the Steelers next quarterback. Especially since Ben has not even officially retired. The playoffs are not even over yet. But hey, why not throw my opinion out there.

Mason Rudolph–I do not hate going this route. Yeah, I know that he has not been good when given the opportunity to start, but I think if the Steelers focus on improving the line with their first two picks (and shoring up the run defense), then I truly believe Mason is competent enough with a great defense and a good running game to keep the Steelers competitive. Super Bowl winners? No, but it would not end up being a disaster season.

Dwayne Haskins–He could not beat out Mason. I just do not think he is starting quarterback material in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers–I know, it is a fun dream. The Steelers make a big trade with the Packers and land Rodgers, who leads them to a Super Bowl win next season. I just do not see it happening.

Derek Carr–Okay, I could see this one happening. The Steelers decide to sign a free agent QB and Carr is talented enough to win lots of games with the right team.

Matt Corral/Sam Howell–I am not enamored with any of the quarterbacks in this draft. I do not think it is wise to waste a first round pick on any of them. If for some reason, the Steelers could get Corral in the second round (hahaha, not going to happen), then sure. Take him. Howell…again, too risky for the first round. I do not know if Howell is really an upgrade on Rudolph or Haskins.

Mitchell Trubisky–I keep seeing his name thrown out there. He was in an awful situation with the Bears, but did have flashes of awesome. They were brief, but it was definitely there. Not sure if he is a free agent or if the Bills would require a trade. Not sure what that would cost, a third or fourth round pick?

Justin Fields–Okay, I have not heard this one, but I just made it up. Look, if the Bears are done with Fields. I think the Steelers should take a chance on him. I still think he has the skills. Just needs to be put in a better situation.

There are other names that are mentioned (Jameis Winston, Tyler Huntley, Jimmy Garoppolo, Russell Wilson) that are either not interesting or just not going to happen. If I were going to bet on this, my money would be on Mason Rudolph. That is just more in line with the Steelers way of thinking. I would like to see them go with Carr or Fields, but my luck it will be Tua Tagovailoa (just kidding, I do not hate Tua, but just wonder if he is too screwed up at this point).
