2021 Fantasy Baseball Season Wrap Up

Just a reminder…I was the champion this year! Yeah, suck it everyone else! The fun thing to look at is how good the teams were this year and how lucky some of them got at times. This post will also present some awards and we will dive into the historical records.

Looking at my team, I definitely think I got lucky at times. My hitting was only the best in one category (AVG) and was top three in a few others. However, my Head-to-Head records in those stats were dominant. The pitching was even less dominant. I am guessing if I did the old thing where I added up where I rank in each category, I would probably end up in fourth. So yeah, I am happy with how I over-performed. So who were the leaders?

R: Ryan (810)
HR: Ryan (232)
RBI: Ryan (734)
SB: Jason (143)
AVG: Josh (.276)
OBP: Ryan (.357)

So yeah, Ryan was probably the most dominant hitting team. His record though in those categories: 71-41-8. My record in them? 69-39-6. Crazy that we were that close and yet he was significantly ahead of me in the actual stats.

W: James (120)
SV: Dustin (102)
K: James (2010)
HLD: Josh (58)
ERA: Sean (3.19)
WHIP: Adam2 (1.11)

James was almost perfect in strikeouts. He went 18-1-0. And yet, even though he dominated wins and strikeouts because of his streaming…70-37-7. My record was 63-46-5, and that is with a losing record in those two categories. Sean was 69-43-8 despite having weak closers.

And now…AWARD!

BEST KEEPER: Juan Soto (Pat)…okay, you might wonder why I went with Soto here. Ryan did keep Tatis, but then traded him and the trade did not really pan out the way he wanted. So this award is for having a keeper all season and getting the most out of him. Soto gave Pat 86/22/71/7/.298/.443.

WORST KEEPER: Cody Bellinger (Gideon)…wow! Has a former MVP ever fallen so hard? He hit .171 with a .233 OBP for Gideon, while clubbing a whopping seven home runs. Not good at all.

BEST DRAFT PICK: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Ryan)…he drafted him in the 4th round with the 7th pick (basically the first round of actual drafting since the first three are keepers and a few picks from people not keeping three). I took Jose Abreu a few picks before Vlad went…ugh. I would have loved this stat line: 95/36/91/3/.312/.406.

WORST DRAFT PICK: Adalberto Mondesi (Sean)…picked in the third round. If you look at some of the guys taken in the next round, it makes this pick harder to swallow. He was injured a good bit of the year, but it is still hard to justify taking him that early (maybe Sean was auto-picking).

BEST/WORST PICK UP: Shohei Ohtani–Batter (Gideon/Ryan)…No one drafted Ohtani. Ryan picked him up on April 7th, but then dropped him on the 9th. Gideon snatched him on the 14th and never let him go. He hit 37 HRs for Gideon.

BEST TRADE: Jose Altuve, Bryce Harper, and Richard Rodriguez for Trevor Bauer and Jazz Chisolm (Adam2)…this would probably have been a good trade, but Harper really turned it on once he went to Adam’s team. The bad thing? It was only a few starts until Trevor Bauer was placed on leave for being…well an alleged sexual assaulter.

WORST TRADE: Salvador Perez and Fernando Tatis for Aaron Nola and Stephen Strasburg (Josh)…I just traded for Tatis, but I gave up Gerrit Cole, so I panicked that I did not have enough pitching and traded Perez and Tatis for…well for not much. I think I gave up a combined 80 HRs. I eventually traded them both to Ryan for Cole (what a weird series of trades).

MOST ANGRY PERSON: Ryan will be pissed next year when I rule that he is not eligible to keep Ronald Acuna. We may have to form a committee to make a ruling on that one. Something to deal with over the winter.

BEST WINNING STREAK: James won eight weeks in a row before finally losing to me.

And now…the historical stats.

If you remember, this is how I assign points.
