Kenobi–Chapters 1 & 2

It has been awhile since I wrote about a TV show. I thought it would be fun to do this one since it is not that long of a series. I should mention that if you are looking for an actual review, there are plenty of other sites out there. This is more just what I like, what I think will happen, etc. Also, this should go without saying, but there will be spoilers.

Going into this show (and before that when it was going to be a movie), I had my doubts about how they could make a show about Obi-Wan Kenobi work as a solo story. It just does not make sense if he has a bunch of adventures on Tatooine, and as we saw with The Book of Boba Fett, sticking to that desert planet can be a disaster (granted, I liked the show, but my favorite parts were about Mando or the early stuff about Boba living with the Tusken Raiders).

So yeah, I was nervous that this show would not work. Especially if Darth Vader shows up on his home planet and does not think it at all weird that his former master is just hiding out there. It was evident that Obi-Wan would have to leave Tatooine for a period of time. But what could draw him away from watching Luke? It should have been fairly obvious that it would be Leia! It makes me angry at myself for not even considering it. Her message to Obi-Wan in ANH made it seem like they did not know each other (I think that one is easily explained away as she was older and maybe thought he would not remember her…maybe she forgot about being kidnapped, I mean, she leads an adventurous life, or maybe she does not think it is proper to bring up in a quick message begging him for help…who knows).

So what has Obi-Wan been doing during these ten years living on Tatooine? Well, he is a broken down, former Jedi Master. Working for a few credits and dealing with a Jawa who likes to steal his stuff from him and sell it back. One of the things I was mildly interested in seeing was how the relationship between Owen and Obi-Wan deteriorated to the point of not wanting the Jedi around Luke. I say mildly interested because I always assumed that Owen loved Luke and did not want his adopted son to train to be a Jedi because he might end up dead like Anakin.

Okay so what did I love?
-Ewan McGregor. Seriously, he is Obi-Wan Kenobi. My favorite part was when he arrives at Daiyu and is looking for Leia, he is stroking his beard like he did in the prequels. Subtle and perfect.
-The girl that plays Leia is fantastic. She is a naive ten year old, but also very smart and Force sensitive empath, who picks up on moods and feelings.
-I enjoyed the idea of a scam artist pretending to be a Jedi. It was even better that Kumail Nanjiani played him and that he is actually a good person deep down (hopefully).

The dislikes…
-The chase scene was a bit silly. First we have Reva doing crazy parkour to go like ten feet. Also, Obi-Wan is yelling at Leia, while being shot at and neither bad guy can hit him. It was just meh.
-Reva’s plan is a little weird. She kidnaps Bail Organa’s kid because she knows that Kenobi and Organa worked missions together?

Thoughts…
-Reva was the padawan at the beginning. I am guessing she blames the Jedi for her life falling apart. Taken from her family at a young age, then they almost get her killed.
-This entire story will be the spark that helps Kenobi rejoin the fight and be ready to jump into action when Luke needs him. The old man we see in ANH is not nearly as broken down and hesitant as this Ben Kenobi.
-I do not think Vader and Obi-Wan actually have a rematch. I think Obi-Wan takes a detour to Dagobah to see his old master and he stops at the cave, where he faces his demon…his old friend and apprentice. Or I am completely wrong and they do legit battle each other. If so, I think Obi-Wan scores the victory, but it is even closer than before.
-The Grand Inquisitor is not dead. Either he is pulling a Darth Maul (using his anger to keep himself alive) or he is rescued like Fennec Shand and repaired.
