Dragons and Demons

Kel Kade released her fifth King’s Dark Tidings book, Dragons and Demons. It had been a few years since the fourth book, and it took me a moment while listening to remember just what was going on in the story. Once I did though, this book had me hooked. Rezkin is one of my favorite characters in fantasy right now. His interactions with people are hilarious.

For example, when the discussion of slavery comes up, Rezkin is against it. But then as he starts to explain his reasoning, his friends are annoyed that his reasons are more practical (you get more productivity from free people as opposed to slave labor or something like that). One of the rules is to not waste resources and his people are a resource. Rez comes to the right decision (and when he thinks about it later, he feels that slavery is abhorant, but he really never thought about it before aside from the resource aspect). I love that as Rezkin spends more time with his friends, he is developing feelings and complicated thoughts.

I would like to apologize Kel Kade. When I first started reading this series, I thought she might actually be Brent Weeks writing under a pseudonym. I did at least acknowledge at the end of the post that Kel could be a woman. Sometimes I do not realize my own sexism and bias. I apologize for the assumption that the author was a man.
