Top Five Travel: North America Edition

North America is 9.54 million square miles. That is pretty big. There are so many things to visit and see. I asked Lindsey for her top five of places to visit someday, then gave her mine. I figured this would be a great way to find future vacation spots. Here are our top fives, in reverse order.

FIVE

Josh:  Disney World

I have never been there. Lindsey has been there a few times. Obviously when Payton is a little older we will definitely go there. For years I thought it was just a bunch of kids stuff, but have heard about some of the cool stuff there. And c’mon, Disney owns Marvel, Star Wars, and just about everything else, how couldn’t I want to go there now?

Lindsey: Roswell, New Mexico

I thought this one was a little weird. I never hear my wife talk about aliens. She has never shown any interest in the Roswell crash. Then it hit me, she loved the television show, Roswell. This will be a theme throughout this list.

FOUR

Josh: Montreal

I cannot make fun of Lindsey for her reasons for wanting to visit certain places because mine are just as silly. I want to go to Montreal when they get a professional baseball team again. Look, it will happen and when it does, I want to check out a game there. That is not the only reason, I mean, the city looks amazing. The Montreal Biodome, Botanical Garden, and some of the old parts of the city look cool. I have also read that the downtown area is great for finding little places to eat, shop, etc.

Lindsey: San Francisco

I will give her credit, San Francisco does seem like a pretty cool place. And obviously I could hit up a Giants game. My guess was that Lindsey wanted to visit here because of Full House, but I was totally wrong. Charmed. That is the show that inspires her to visit the home of the Golden Gate Bridge.

THREE

Josh: Grand Canyon

C’mon! It is one of the most beautiful, majestic places on the planet! Of course I want to see it. In fact, we almost took a daytrip there when we went to Las Vegas.

Lindsey: Arizona

Obviously the state of Arizona is rather large. I have no clue where she wants to visit. I think she really wants to see Lake Havasu (and probably the Grand Canyon). I also think she has heard about Scottsdale. I would be down to hit up Phoenix as well, might as well catch a Diamondbacks game.

TWO

Josh: Mexico City

I really want to see the pyramids of Teotihuacan. Also would like to visit the actual city. It is one of the largest cities in the world and could possibly be home to baseball team at some point. If it does get a team, you know I will be hitting up a game while I am there.

Lindsey: New England

Why do you think Lindsey wants to visit the New England region? Her favorite show is Dawson’s Creek. Granted, it would be really cool to visit the area. A few years ago we almost did a roadtrip where we hit a few B&Bs. It looks like a beautiful area and hey, maybe I could see look for Jake’s burial spot in Maine…

ONE

Josh: San Diego

I have always wanted to visit San Diego, mostly because everyone always says how it is basically the perfect place to live. The weather is always amazing, the ocean is beautiful and warm. There is so much to do around the city. I mean, it just seems like a paradise. Also, while I am there, I get to visit Petco Park and see the Padres play a game. Also, hit up the aquarium, eat tons of great food (like tons of tacos, right?), the beach, and probably a ton of other stuff that I cannot think of at the moment.

Lindsey: Seattle

I bet you thought her reasoning would be Grey’s Anatomy, right? You would be wrong, in fact this one does not have anything to do with a television show. This was the first place that came to her head and she was like “I don’t know, I have just always wanted to visit there.” Looks like I get to see the Mariners play…

The cool thing about this discussion is that it made me realize we could probably knock a few of these out in one vacation. Fly out to the Grand Canyon, spend a day there, then rent a car and hit up Lake Havasu for a day, drive down to Phoenix area for a day or two, then drive down to Tuscon and visit Tombstone the next day, then head east to Roswell. After you see everything there, drive up to Albuquerque and catch a flight back to Pennsylvania. I am thinking you could do all that in a week, maybe a few extra days if you do not want to be overly exhausted. So there you have it, I have one of our vacations already figured out!

And for another one, fly to San Diego, spend a few days there, then fly up to San Francisco for a few days. Catch a Giants game, then you might as well head over to Oakland for an A’s game (I mean, if they still play there and have not actually moved to Montreal or Mexico City).

  1. Disney can be fun, if pricy. We went 2 years ago and it was literally the only trip the four of us have ever taken that wasn’t to visit family. That’s probably why it was our best vacation ever. Been saving up for a couple years and we’re going again later this year while the girls are still prime age (6 and 11). Let me know when you’re planning a trip there (PLAN AT LEAST 8 MONTHS AHEAD!) and I’ll give you tips.

As far as New England, if you ever head up 84 you’ll be driving within 2 minutes of my house. Drop me a line and we’ll meet for lunch. Ella would probably love to meet Payton.

  2. I lived in San Diego for two years and highly recommend going. The Gaslamp (the neighborhood where Petco is located) is a cool area, and you definitely need to go to the zoo. Although I never watched the show, I thought Dawson’s Creek was in North Carolina.
