Night Angel Nemesis

Brent Weeks decided to go back to his Night Angel universe and pick up the story now that Kylar is the Night Angel. I guess this is the first book of The Kylar Chronicles. The bad thing is that it has been nine years since I read the last book, and honestly, I was not the biggest fan of the ending, even though I really enjoyed the entire series. Needless to say, it was confusing reading this book since I could not remember some of the things that were referenced. After a while though, it all came back to me.

I liked this book. We get to see an emotionally vulnerable Kylar, who is trying to come to grips with being the Night Angel, while also mourning the death of Elene. I loved the format, kind of like a found-footage movie. Viridiana is reading his diary, which is magically protected only for her eyes, but sometimes she is part of the story, and we then get her reactions.

The best thing about this book? It worked so well as a solo novel. I did not know that it was part of a new series, and thought it was a stand-alone. The ending works pretty well. Without spoiling anything, it was a sad ending. I enjoy though that there will be more to the story.

I cannot wait for the next book to continue seeing how this universe expands. I want to learn more about the Blue Magi, and definitely hope Master Vitruvius (not sure if that spelling is even close) shows up more.
