I have watched YouTube in the past. But I usually just watched random channels that had funny stuff (HISHE or Honest Trailers come to mind) and would just watch a bunch of videos one day. I was not a subscriber and it was never something I had to watch on a weekly basis. I definitely did not see myself as someone who followed any YouTubers.
That changed this year. I think last year I started watching lots of Rick Shiels golf videos.Early in the year I subscribed (I think he was giving away clubs) and I liked getting the notifications about new videos. His Break75 videos were probably some of my favorite videos this year. I was excited each week for the next episode to see how he would do. I also loved the video where he went around St.Andrews buying golf clubs from second-hand shops. It was cool seeing him geek out over different clubs. My favorite video though was Rick taking his producer, Guy, to St.Andrews and having him play a round with his family for a wedding present (I think Guy’s fiance and mom met them at like the 18th hole). It was a cool video.
I have two other channels that I discovered this year that I love as well: Dr. Mike and Legal Eagle. Dr. Mike is super positive and earnest. It is a nice change of pace from the usual things I watch. He gives great medical advice, while being funny. His reactions to memes crack me up. Legal Eagle breaks down current trials and gives excellent incite into the legal basis for a judgement. He also does other videos about different cases. Both YouTubers will watch and react to medical/legal dramas (as well as doing a cross-over review of a Gray’s Anatomy episode about a medical malpractice case). I highly recommend both channels.
