From now until the new season starts, I am going to post a theory I have about the season. Or perhaps an ending. Some of these theories will be silly, others legit.
This theory is a little out there. This is how the show could end. So allow me to set the scene. The battles have been waging, the Night King’s army is moving south. Jon and Daenerys have to retreat from Winterfell. The final episode sees Jon and Dany perish, as do the dragons. Tyrion dies, Jaime and Cersei die, everyone is dying. As the Night King’s forces storm into the Red Keep, we see Bran sitting the Iron Throne. The Night King walks up to him and stabs Bran. As he dies, he smiles and closes his eyes.
As they close, the camera zooms in on those eyes. Then they snap open and we see Bran young again. It is from season one, when King Robert comes to Winterfell. Catelyn Stark says to Bran to not climb the walls and we see him run to the tower. He looks up at it, and then walks past it. He smiles and his eyes glaze over and turn white.
The implication being that before Bran dies, he sends his mind back in time and does all of his Three-Eyed Raven stuff to himself earlier with the hope that he can prevent the end of the world this time (maybe the Three-Eyed Raven has been on an endless cycle trying to prevent the Night King from winning).
Obviously this would be a pretty wacky ending. However, it would be a great way to piss off all the people who bet on Bran ending up on the Iron Throne. I noticed that betting sites do not have Robert Baratheon listed as an option. I bet you could get some insane odds for that one. Maybe David Benioff put a covert bet on this one.
