Not Till We Are Lost

I cannot believe that we already have five Bobiverse books. The newest Dennis E. Taylor novel, Not Till We Are Lost, picks up after the events of Heaven’s River. The Bobs have multiple issues to deal with, the Quinns are setting up there an Quinniverse. Many groups of humans are not cool with the Bobs (Faith has risen back up) and other replicants. One group of Bobs has created an AI, will it cause the downfall of humanity? New planets and alien life have been found, and the Bobs need to do their usual, jump in and possibly interfere. Oh, and two Bobs are heading to the center of the galaxy, and they have found something that could mean annihilation. 

Okay, so some spoilers here…

I love how the greatest threats that happen, sometimes are just mentioned in different POV chapters. Like each main Bob that we follow has their own thing to deal with. The Skippy AI? Yeah, that is a huge threat, but that only takes up a small part of the problems they are dealing with. Dae & Ick find a wormhole network that and an abandoned civilization…cool, but it is just them, this does not take up the whole book. Sometimes you want to keep reading those parts, but then it jumps to another part, and you get enthralled with that story. 

I mentioned long ago that I think the Bobiverse could be a great television show. Sci-fi shows like this are difficult because of the production expense, but I think you could really do some fun & cool stuff with this show. I mentioned before that you have one actor play Bob, and his clones, but the more I think about it, I have a better idea. Do that during the first season. Then in season two, have an actor who looks like your original actor, play different clones. 

That way you could have different actors playing the different characters, and over time the audience could see the idea of replicative drift. I realize the idea is not visual in the book, but these clones are just a VR image of themselves, they can change their features. Maybe we see that happen as the seasons progress. I think you could also tackle self-image, and how the different clones see themselves when they are assigned a role.
