Political Ramblings: Part 6

The election is only two days away. I will not lie, I am feeling fairly anxious about the outcome. I feel pretty good about Biden winning, but not like totally great. Also, like most people, I am worried about the possibility of Trump not leaving and there being a tumultuous transition of power.

This post is going to dive into what I think will happen if the different outcomes happens. I am not going down the dark road of a possible civil war or any of that stuff. Instead, this is what will happen if either candidate wins.

OUTCOME #1: TRUMP WINS AN EXTREMELY CLOSE ELECTION
I think if this happens it is because the Supreme Court has placed their thumb on the scale. Either they throw out hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots that arrive after the election. Maybe a few states decide their electors will choose because of too many voting irregularities.

I think the next four years would look almost exactly like the past four years. Protests over anything Trump does. I do not think he goes into full on authoritarian mode and turns our country into a dictatorship. Instead, he does what he does best: finds ways to enrich himself and his family. He leads the country by stripping away laws and regulations. It will hurt people, especially as he rids Americans of healthcare by repealing the ACA. This will be an awful outcome.

OUTCOME #2: BIDEN WINS AN EXTREMELY CLOSE ELECTION
Joe Biden wins, but the Democrats fail to take back the Senate. Four years are spent not being to do much unless he decides to go the Executive Order route, which would most likely be shot down by the Supreme Court.

Trump buys (or becomes the managing partner) of OAN, which rebrands itself as Trump News Network. They spend the entire four years peddling conspiracy theories and undermining everything the Democrats try.

The GOP still fears the Trump base and they embrace this lunacy, making it even more difficult for Joe Biden to reach across the aisle for unity. Trump runs again in 2024.

OUTCOME #3: TRUMP WINS IN A LANDSLIDE
HAHAHA. This one does not happen at all. If it does, then we should start looking into whether or not the actual voting machines were hacked.

On a serious note though, if this were to happen. The Democratic Party would probably fracture. I think the Progressive wing would say that the Super Tuesday move from so many candidates to unify behind Biden to take down Bernie was what cost them the election. I think they split off from the party and become the Democratic Socialist Party.

I also think in this scenario, Trump becomes even more unhinged than he already is. I could totally see him trying to find a way to give himself a third term.

OUTCOME #4: BIDEN WINS IN A LANDSLIDE
Biden wins big. He takes Texas, Florida, Georgia…the Democrats take the Senate, and they manage to have a decent majority. Enough that they do not have to worry about some of those swing state Senators and how they will vote. They begin with court reform and add two new states (DC & PR). I guess they really would have to start with the filibuster. Big changes happen.

Trump does the OAN thing, but the Republican party is not cool with him. Traditional conservatives decide to abandon the guy. The party splits with the Trump base forming a new party. I think we see guys like Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, Tom Cotton flock to this party. They embrace every crazy conspiracy theory imaginable and try to make anyone who is not with them seem like an enemy of America.

From this rises a new GOP. They merge more of their ideals with Libertarians (legal weed) and begin the work of appealing to a broader electorate. Rand Paul becomes the leader of the party and runs in 2024.

Those are my four outcomes. Seriously better than worrying about a possible civil war or riots or any of the other horrific outcomes that could happen.
