Josh’s College Football Rankings 2025–Week 13

There were some exciting games this week, but they were few and far between. Seriously, when I am the NCAA Commissioner, I will make a rule against scheduling FCS opponents after week three. Anyways, the lack of big games means the rankings did not change much, particularly in the top 12.

  1.  Ohio State (11-0)–#1–W 42-9 Rutgers
  2. Texas A&M (11-0)–#2–W 48-0 Samford
  3. Indiana (11-0)–#3–BYE
  4. Georgia (10-1)–#4–W 35-3 Charlotte
  5. Oregon (10-1)–#5–W 42-27 #18 USC. There was a small part of me that thought the Trojans would pull off the upset. Silly me. The Ducks are looking good at the right time of year.
  6. Ole Miss (10-1)–#6–BYE
  7. Texas Tech (10-1)–#7–BYE
  8. Oklahoma (9-2)–#8–W 17-6 #22 Missouri. Not a pretty win, but the Sooners defense does it’s thing, and that is all that matters.
  9. Alabama (9-2)–#9–W 56-0 Eastern Illinois
  10. Notre Dame (9-2)–#10–W 70-7 Syracuse. The Irish were up 21-0 before their first offensive possession. Syracuse should have just left after that.
  11. BYU (10-1)–#11–W 26-14 #30 Cincinnati. A solid win for the Cougars. The advantage of ranking out to forty spots is that I can give respect to BYU for this win, whereas other rankings do not give this game much merit.
  12. Vanderbilt (9-2)–#12–W 45-17 Kentucky
  13. Utah (9-2)–#14–W 51-47 Kansas State. Zero defense played in this game, the Utes are truly part of the Big XII.
  14. Michigan (9-2)–#15–W 45-20 Maryland
  15. Virginia (9-2)–#16–BYE
  16. Miami (9-2)–#17–W 34-17 Virginia Tech
  17. Tennessee (8-3)–#21–W 31-11 Florida. The Vols went to Gainesville and pounded on the Gators.
  18. Texas (8-3)–#20–W 52-37 Arkansas
  19. Pittsburgh (8-3)–#26–W 42-28 #13 Georgia Tech. The Panthers managed to crush Yellow Jackets, despite Narduzzi doing some dumb shit. I mean, was that the worst fake punt in the history of fake punts? It was the most obvious fake ever.
  20. James Madison (10-1)–#19–W 24-20 Washington State. The Dukes dropped a spot because I do not think they could handle Pitt, Texas, or Tennessee. They are a good team, but they struggled with Wazzou.
  21. Washington (8-3)–#23–W 48-14 UCLA
  22. Georgia Tech (9-2)–#13–L 42-28 #26 Pitt. Play defense!
  23. North Texas (10-1)–#24–W 56-24 Rice
  24. USC (8-3)–#18–L 42-27 #5 Oregon
  25. Arizona (8-3)–#27–W 41-17 Baylor
  26. Tulane (9-2)–#28–W 37-13 Temple
  27. SMU (8-3)–#34–W 38-6 #25 Louisville. Damn, the Mustangs are not messing around.

The final week of the regular season (yes, I know, Army vs. Navy is the final week) has some of the great rivalry games. I think last year I mentioned most of them, especially the ones with fun names. There are some games that are fun because even though one team is bad, there is always the potential for an upset: UCLA at #24 USC, #9 Alabama at Auburn, or #6 Ole Miss at Mississippi State. I will go out on a limb here and say one of those unranked teams will pull off the upset. What do you think?

There are also some great games between ranked teams. #5 Oregon at #21 Washington, #12 Vanderbilt at #17 Tennessee, and #4 Georgia vs. #22 Georgia Tech. We also get #25 Arizona at #28 Arizona State, not sure why, but I think this could be a fun game. 

Then we have the three games that I am looking forward to the most…
#2 Texas A&M at #18 Texas–The Aggies could make a big statement with a huge win against the Longhorns.
#1 Ohio State at #14 Michigan–The Wolverines would love to give their biggest enemy a blemish on that record. Ryan Day has to prove that he can beat Michigan. National Championships are nice, but they are meaningless in Columbus if Ann Arbor gets to brag every year.
#16 Miami at #19 Pitt–This game has some huge implications for the ACC Championship. If Pitt wins, and Duke or SMU loses, they are in. If Miami wins, they need some help. They need SMU & Duke to lose, SMU & Virginia to lose, or Duke & Virginia to lose. Lots of crazy scenarios. 

Tiny But Mighty
#3 Montana State defeated #2 Montana 31-28. The Brawl of the Wild lived up to the hype. The Bobcats secured a Big Sky Conference title with the win over the Grizzlies. This was the 124th meeting between the two schools (fun fact: they are on opposite sides of the continental divide, which is why the winner gets the Great Divide Trophy). 

Coaching Carousel
I was going to talk about James Franklin being hired by Virginia Tech, but I think I have mentioned enough about that topic. Also, it would be tough to talk about the Coaching Carousel and not say something about the possibility of Lane Kiffin to LSU.

But then I just saw the news that California head coach Justin Wilcox was fired after a big loss to Stanford. He was 48-55 during his time at Cal. It seems crazy that I watched them pound on UCLA back in 2023 with a young Fernando Mendoza, and they were talking about how great of a job Wilcox was doing at Cal. He won three in a row to be bowl eligible. And now? Mendoza is dominating at Indiana, and Justin Wilcox is updating his resume.

I think Love jumped ahead of Sayin this week. In fact, I would not be shocked if Sayin dropped out of the conversation completely. Not an impressive game at the end of the season, especially with his top two receivers out, this would be an opportunity to prove that it was him and not them. Jeremiyah Love continues to just dominate. Love has had some monster runs this year, here are his longest runs from the last five games: 68, 56, 48, 94, 63. In a year when QB play is not totally consistent from week-to-week, the award could go to a running back. Trivia time! Who was the last running back to win the Heisman?
