First Trip to Disney Part 1

Did you know that I have never been to Disney World? I am not sure why we never went when we were kids. It is not like we did not go places, we went to amusement parks and beaches. I do not think back then that my mom would have flown, so maybe that eliminated that possibility (she is over that fear now). Anyways, I have never been there.

You may be wondering why I have not mentioned a trip to Disney in the past few weeks. I mean, I usually mention just about everything. The reason is that it was not planned. We were supposed to go to Ocean City. However, Hurricane Florence came and made us change our plans. We checked the weather and it looked like major rain everyday, so we looked at going elsewhere.

Adam2 and Kayla looked at flights + rentals in Orlando, and guess what? They were cheaper than the place we were staying in OC. So it was decided; we were flying to Orlando! The decision was made on Tuesday night. The flight was on Monday morning. This may seem like no big deal…but it was. It was extremely stressful.

I know, some of you are thinking: “what could be so stressful about going on vacation?” Allow me to explain. First of all, Lindsey & I still had a few days of work and we both had tons of things to get done with work. Secondly, we were not 100% sure what we were doing with Samson. The hurricane was affecting Lindsey’s dad’s plans, so he may have been able to watch Samson or we would have someone else watch him. But we had to wait and find out.

The trip to Ocean City was going to be easy. We were going to get up Monday, and pack the car and head out. We knew what we would pack and it did not matter if we brought a ton of stuff because it would fit in the car. Now though? We were flying. Limited suitcase space and we had to leave here at 4:00 a.m. Also, guess what? Payton has never flown before! Great, no clue how that would go. And I have never flown with a kid, so we had to look up things like car seats, strollers…ughhhh.

On top of all this, there were things going on in our lives like birthday parties, meetings, etc. You know, normal life stuff. Oh and on Saturday? Penn State played and since I was off, I was bound and determined to watch the game (I have worked during both games this season). We packed most of our stuff on Saturday. Then we watched some football on Sunday, and finished up. We took Samson to Lindsey’s dad’s house and had dinner. On Saturday I took my car seat out of the car and cleaned it (it was fun taking it apart and scrubbing all of the Smiley Cookie crumbs out of it).

On the way home from Lindsey’s dad’s, we stopped for milkshakes. We gave Payton one and guess what? She dumped it all over Lindsey’s car. I ended up taking her car seat apart and washing it as well. Since I had it out, it made sense to bring the vacuum cleaner out and clean her car (have you ever looked at your seat where the car seat goes? Absolutely filthy…kids are gross). I also took the stroller apart and cleaned that thing. We closed up the bags and I weighed them. Everything looked good.

She had Bah, that is all that really mattered

We woke up at 3:00 a.m. and loaded the car and made our way to Latrobe Airport. Everything went fairly smooth. I used a bag I bought from Walmart for the car seat (it was like $13 and was designed for traveling with one). Payton did well on the flight. She got a little restless at one point and she did not understand why the phone would not work. We downloaded some episodes of Puppy Dog Pals/Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the iPad, but she was annoyed that she could not keep changing them after three seconds.

That is the story of our trip to Disney! Just kidding, there will be more to come…I promise.
