Building a Golf Course

I have an idea for a golf course. Like not the actual course, what the hell would I know about building a golf course. But instead, I have an idea for a type of golf course in this area. I would like to combine the best of private and public courses.

First of all, it would be an 18-hole course. It would be open to the public. There would also be a 19th hole. A long par three, something picturesque. What would this hole be for? Well, for one thing, it would only be available for members to practice. A bunch of sand traps, big, difficult green. Why did I mention it being picturesque? Well, this would also be an area you could rent out for weddings and parties. Yep, a way to generate more sales. Invest in a big tent, chairs and all that stuff, that way you could have it to include in a package deal for rentals.

One of the things I have always liked about some of the nicer private golf clubs is that they have a great restaurant. This would be what makes my course a draw. There would a fantastic restaurant (in this area, I think I have the perfect restaurant that I would want to bring in as a partner–Off the RAK from Ebensburg) and it would have a big enough kitchen that they could do the catering for those weddings and events I mentioned.

Okay, so the restaurant would be open to the public as well. Members get a discount (maybe 20%, I don’t know, we can work those details out with the owner of the restaurant). If you have ever been to Off the RAK, you know that it kind of looks like a golf club. They have the bar area, which is a little more relaxed, but then there is a dining room which is more fancy. Then there is the patio area which is somewhere in between.

What would the benefit be to joining this club? Well aside from a sweet discount for food and free golf. I would look at pricing things in a progressive way that would make it worthwhile to younger people. Maybe we look at a members only swimming pool. There would also be members only events throughout the year. Not just golf stuff, but also a few things per year. Hey, I would let someone else figure that stuff out.

I have a few other ideas for my course, but I will keep those private or save them for investor meetings. I will be looking for serious investors over the next year or so. I already have the property scouted out, so it is just a matter of raising the capital and convincing the owner of Off the RAK to get involved.
