Best of 2025: Favorite Song

Funny how a few years ago, I would struggle to find new songs. Hell, I think when I first started doing this, I would not even limit favorite song to new stuff, just a song that I was listening to a bunch. Now though? I had a list of close to forty songs that could have made it, but I will spare you all of them, and instead give a top ten.

Before we dive into the list, let me mention a few that did not make the cut. First of all, Amazon Music had some solid exclusive covers. My three favorites were: Wisp-Yellow, Portugal. The Man-Golden (yes, the KPop Demon Hunters song), and Tors-The Night We Met (I love the Lord Huron song, and this cover definitely does it justice).

Also, I should mention a song that ended up getting a ton of play by me, but I think it came out last year (or maybe earlier). The cover of “Save It For Later” by Eddie Vedder is amazing. I heard it on The Bear and was obsessed with it for a solid two months.

I mean, c’mon, who doesn’t like singing the part that goes “woof woof woof.” It is a fun song.

I may have to listen to the entire album (I keep seeing it pop up on lots of list as the top album). If all the songs are at this level, I can totally see why.

I loved last year’s song, “A Tear in Space (Airlock)” and this one does not disappoint. This band just keeps cranking out hits.

It was hard to pick a favorite The Lumineers song this year since they had so many great choices. But, I have to go with “Asshole” because it resonates, especially with Lindsey and I when we first met.
“First we ever metYou thought I was an assholeProbably correct”

I think this was released in 2025, but it may have been 2024. I can tell you that it first started popping up in my music feed around May, and it was one of those songs that I immediately fell in love with.

AJR songs always sound fun and happy, but when you listen to the lyrics, they are deeper. Also, the kids really enjoy their songs, so we all get excited for new AJR.

Speaking of my kids…Payton loves this band. She enjoys singing this song, but she likes to point out that “the girl is Heart, and the boy is Head.” I have no clue if that is what their name means, but I will let her run with it.

This is one of those songs that would play on my alternative station that I really enjoyed. Then I noticed that Payton and Logan were playing it on their own. THEN, I saw that Lindsey was playing it as well. This is remarkable because Lindsey does not usually want to branch out to new music. I mean, she would argue with me, but most of the stations she listens to in the car on Amazon are like “Rediscover the 2000s” or “90s Alt-Rock.” Nothing wrong with it, but it was cool to see a song that we all really liked.

This is such a fun song! If I am having a bad day, and I am getting grumpy, I just put this on and jam out. I was actually listening to it in the bakery at work one day, and I did not realize that while I was doing cookies and singing to it, that I must have been bopping along to it and smiling because some lady was like “you look like you are having such a great time back there!” So yeah, this song is great.

I have no clue how this song ended up in the rotation, but I am glad that it did. First of all, it is probably not appropriate for kids, but I have a habit of listening to anything with the kids. So one day after taking Payton to dance, this song came on, and I was jamming to it. Then I hear in the backseat “I need you like God needs the Devil…” and Logan is also just singing away. Then when we got home, he wanted to play catch and asked Alexa to play this. What can I say? My kids have great taste in music.
