GOT: House of the Dragon–We Have a King!

It has been awhile since we had any Game of Thrones news, definitely not any word on when a book will be released. The news of the prequel being shut down was rough (the one with Naomi Watts that was set thousands of years before the events of GOT). But then we were given hope…House of the Dragon, which is based on parts of Fire & Blood.

The big news came today that Paddy Considine will be playing King Viserys Targaryen. If you remember, he became the king after Jaehaerys died and the Great Council decided on him (there was no clear succession because Jaehaerys chosen heir died before the old king–Viserys was the eldest son of that heir–the Council wanted to avoid civil war).

He rules for like 25 years and then when he dies, there is a civil war (The Dance of Dragons). If I recall, he was grooming and then named his oldest daughter (of his first wife) to be his heir, but when he died the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard named his eldest son by his second wife as the king. That split the kingdom and it was a crazy war.

Anyways, Paddy should be perfect as Viserys. He was a good king and he wanted to do what was right for the realm. Also, he was the last person to be Balerion the  Black Dread’s dragonrider. I loved Paddy in The Outsider and this should be a good role for him to really break out.
