Jammin’ With Josh: The Lumineers

This is Jammin’ With Josh. Each week I take a look at one of the bands that I love. Or perhaps it will be a band that I just discovered and think you should check out. Or maybe it will just be a way for me to post music videos. Honestly, no one will ever know.

The Lumineers hold a special place in my heart. I would say they are the first band that Lindsey and I enjoyed together. Their music is very much intertwined with our relationship.

I am not going to pretend to know anything about the band. I am long past those days of wanting to know where they are from and how they formed. I just enjoy the music. I just read their Wikipedia page and learned they are from America. I thought they were Irish. I am obviously an idiot.

I remember in 2012, the song “Ho Hey” was being played on the radio a bunch and it sounded great. Lindsey and I both loved it(and yes, we probably sang it loudly in the car). We ended up using the song at our wedding as the song we were introduced to and my brother made a sign for us. That sign is still part of the Navy Room in our house.

The next song that really hits me is “Cleopatra.” If anyone knows my wife, then you know these words are 100% true:

But I was late for this, late for that, late for the love of my life
And when I die alone, when I die alone, when I die I’ll be on time

I know it is a little literal instead of what the song is really about, but come on, my wife is late for everything. I love her, but it drives me insane. When I first heard this song, I laughed and just looked at her.

Another song about falling in love. Yes, I am feeling romantic this week. But come on, it’s an awesome song!

The first time I heard “Charlie Boy”, it made me think of Dad. Not that the song was about him or anything (he did not go to war obviously), but I feel like he would have liked The Lumineers. Wish we could listen to them together.

They do not have a ton of albums (two major ones), but pretty much every song they have is awesome. I definitely recommend them.
