2024 Golf Picks–The Open

The US Open kicked all of our butts. The leader was Tobe at +20. I finished in 7th with a +70. I am pretty far down in the standings, but it is not insurmountable. If I can manage a negative, and some of the people ahead of me just completely collapse, I should be good. Wishful thinking.

Here are my picks for Royal Troon.

Tier 1: Rory McIlroy
Last time I picked Scottie, and he did not do well. I should have taken Rory. So this time it will probably be reversed. I like Rory here though, he will play well enough to be in the top five.

Tier 2: Shane Lowry
Lowry always seems to step up in majors. I have no data to back that up, but just a feeling.

Tier 3: Wyndham Clark
He played well last week, so he should be ready for Royal Troon.

Tier 4: Corey Conners
Another guy who played well at the Scottish Open. He also finished 9th at the US Open. Conners seems like the kind of a guy who could end up with a sneaky Major win.

Tier 5: Russell Henley
I was not a huge fan of the Tier 5 options, but Henley strikes me as a guy who does not miss many cuts. This year he has only missed one. He also has five Top 5s this season. Not someone who will win it, but I do not think he will hurt me. Sadly, his best finish at The Open came in 2015 at St. Andrews with a 20th place finish. Sooo maybe this is a bad idea.

Tier 6: Victor Perez
He played well last week, and has a Frenchmen ever won The Open? The answer is yes, Arnaud Massy won the Claret Jug in 1907. So the French are due for a win!
