This weekend was supposed to be a super fun time at a concert. My brother and I were going to see Dispatch at State College. Unfortunately, the band canceled the show because of COVID.
As I mentioned a few times, when I was at Gannon, I would go crazy downloading music. I believe that is how I found “The General.” I put it on a mix CD and eventually I downloaded a few other songs by them.
Oddly though, it was my brother who turned me on to their entire discography. Either he knew someone who was a huge fan or he had downloaded their full albums. I cannot remember, it was like a thousand years ago. Anyways, one night I met up with Adam and his friend, and we ended up at some random house in State College. It was a bunch of stoners and we were talking about music. I was pretty drunk and I said something like “oh yeah, I really love The Dispatch.” And this dude flipped the fuck out. He was ranting at me about how there is no “the” in front of Dispatch. Calm down brah! I think we left to avoid an actual fight.

Probably one of my favorite songs.
I love the original version, but I also really dig this one too. I just think “Bang Bang” is a super underrated song from them.
And finally, I was hoping they would do a John Prine cover. Adam & I were both responding to their FB & IG posts asking for song suggestions we wanted. We both said multiple times that we would love to hear a Prine song at the State College show in honor of our dad. I think they would have obliged.
