I was checking the sports page today at work and I noticed that the main photo was a wrestler from one of the schools in this area beating a kid from my high school. I checked to see how Philipsburg-Osceola was doing in the district matches and then it hit me. At some point, I am going to have to root for a different school.
When does that happen? Should I be rooting for Central Cambria now? Or do I wait until Payton and Logan start school (in case we move and the kids go somewhere else).
I have friends and family that have went through this, they have kids that played sports for other schools and they obviously cheer on that school. What do you do when they compete against your hometown?
The other day I saw that P-O wrestled against Westmont. I work in Westmont. Many of my employees go to that school. I have more connection to there than I do Philipsburg now. And yet, there was a small part of me that was sad when I read that my former school got destroyed.
I have not been to high school sporting event since 2002 when my brother graduated. Why does it even matter? Am I the only person that thinks about this nonsense?
