Spider-Man: No Way Home

WOW! Seriously, it was such an incredible movie. It exceeded all of my expectations. There were plenty of surprises (even though I had a feeling on many of them, I still was not 100% certain) and the story was unexpected in how it worked out. Everything about it was damn near perfect and I would probably put it in my Top Five MCU films. I will have to revise that list pretty soon. There will be SPOILERS FROM HERE!

SERIOUSLY!

SPOILERS!

I PROMISE, YOU WILL BE MAD IF YOU KEEP READING AND DID NOT SEE THE MOVIE!!!!!!!

-I loved the twist early on. The way he easily captures the villains and that is not really the main story. Trying to cure them all was not something I expected. I loved that aspect.

-The fight with Doc Ock was incredible. Crazy how much better the CGI is now and the things they can do (not a knock on Spider-Man 2, Sam Raimi did an amazing job with practical effects and the technology at the time). I knew it was coming, but it was hard not get chills seeing those tentacles coming out of the ground. But it was even better when Spider-Man takes control of Doc’s arms with his nanotech.

-Matt Murdock! Okay, it was speculated early on that the hairy arm in the trailer was Charlie Cox (also funny that it was not his arm at all, but instead Stewie from Succession) and I have to give him credit for convincing everyone that he was not in the movie. I loved when he caught the brick and says that he is a “very good lawyer.”

-The first fight between Green Goblin and Spider-Man was fairly brutal. Just smashing through walls and floors. Damn, that would hurt (and I cannot even imagine how much work it will be to fix all that damage, haha).

-So Dr.Strange is no longer the Sorcerer Supreme, kind of interesting. That explains why it was Wong meeting with everyone else at the end of Shang-Chi. I love the interactions between Strange and Peter. The whole sir thing made laugh each time they did it.

-I was like 99% sure that Andrew Garfield was in the movie (like I think they announced it, right?). And I was 70% sure Toby Maguire was in it. I was not sure if he would suit up though, like maybe he would show up and be older and give Peter the advice he needed. Which is what happened, but it was totally cool that he was still Spider-Man. I had no clue how much it would hit me seeing him though (and Garfield as well, even though those movies were not great, he was still a good Spidey). The line about his back hurting from swinging was funny and a bit 4th wall breaking. Granted, there were plenty of scenes of him falling and holding his back in the original films, but one of the reasons he would not return for more movies was that his back was messed up from the way they filmed the web-swinging scenes.

-Aunt May dying and then being the one to give Peter the whole “with great power comes great responsibility” came completely out of left field. I kind of figured the MCU version had received this speech before from Uncle Ben and they just did not show it (since they assumed we all knew the Spider-Man origin). Remember when Tony Stark asks Peter why he does it, Peter said that when you can do what he can do, you have to stand up for the little guys. It was cool to hear the other Peters stories of loss and how they blamed themselves. I just wish Toby-Peter would have told Peter that while it may seem like the right thing to push those loved ones away to protect them, that it never ends well…but more on that in a second.

-The final battle was great. They worked together and took down the bad guys, but we also got to see Sorcerer Ned and MJ making strong contributions. I am not going to lie, I jumped and cried a little when Toby-Peter was stabbed by Green Goblin. Also, I may have cheered a bit when Doc Ock stops Electro and joins the battle to help the Spider-Men.

-The spell to forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man bothers me a bit. How come Ned, MJ, and Happy all forgot who Peter Parker was? And yet the whole world still remembers Spider-Man? Also, Peter has a GED prep book, so does that mean he was basically erased from all memories, even electronic? The school has no records for him? Seems a little crazy. Instead of telling MJ, Peter chooses to leave her alone after seeing the scar on her head. Again, he could have learned a lesson from Toby-Peter!

-The mid-credit scene was cool. Although, I still have not watched Venom: Let There Be Carnage yet. But Eddie Brock drunk having someone explain this universe to him is amazing. No one spoil the new Venom movie, but how does Eddie get pulled into the MCU? Does he know Spider-Man’s identity (remember, that was what pulled the others in, they all knew that Peter Parker is Spider-Man). And yes, Venom does know (Topher Grace Venom), but does Tom Hardy Venom? So many questions.

-The final scene was just a teaser for Dr.Strange, which I will post in a few days.

-I loved when they were comparing crazy villains they have fought. Toby-Spider saying he fought an alien (the Symbiote/Venom) and Peter saying that he went to space and fought aliens. I loved Garfield-Spider being like “wow, I am lame, I just fought a guy in a mechanized rhino suit.” And then Toby being like “you are not lame, say it with me, you are amazing!” Also, the scene at Ned’s grandma’s place was hilarious. “Can you clean that cobweb in the corner?”

Seriously, I loved so much from this movie!
