Some Random Stuff

I know, I said I would try to write more this year. Obviously that is already failing miserably. I wish I could say that I am so busy all the time and never have time to write anything. Definitely not true. I thought putting Black Mirror on while writing would be okay, but then I got hooked on the show and did nothing except watch the show. I am also working on part two of my baseball trades post. But those are just excuses. I promise to do better! For the three people who read my posts religiously…

Some life updates:

-Payton is teething. I hate that term. It sounds so weird. She already has like sixteen teeth, I thought she was done for awhile, but nope. We got some back ones popping out. Look like those premolars or maybe regular molars. She is now capable of chewing more plants! Anyways, this time has been different from the other 1000 teeth that have popped through. These ones must really hurt because she screams in agony at even the slightest touch. She was eating a banana for lunch and in so much pain that I felt bad for her. Yet she kept shoving more banana in her mouth until she started choking. So she was choking and screaming…great combination. The pain must have been so great that it caused her to fall asleep. To be fair, we also went for a walk this afternoon and we allowed her to walk part of the way instead of riding in the stroller.

-Sean decided to interview me for his blog. Not only has he bestowed a Best Blog of 2016 Award on me, but now he is interviewing me. I feel like a celebrity (especially since Sean has interviewed actual, real people before). I suggest heading to his blog and checking out my interview.

-I asked a question on Facebook about which phone I should buy. I gave two options and people proceeded to give me answers that were not from the two choices. Yes, I get that the Google Pixel 2 is an awesome phone. I would love to get one. However, I do not have the cash to buy one on eBay or some other site, so I have to use the AT&T plan. Also, I have done my research, I just wanted some insight from people who have either of those phones (thanks to the folks who did actually answer the question). I mean, I appreciated the other responses too (the Apple/Seinfeld sidebar with my brother was hilarious). Anyways, today is the day I get the new phone. I am excited!

-I have finally decided to join the rest of the world and give Snapchat a try. I like it…for the most part. I am still trying to get used to the interface. I suppose you can add me. I do not really post things to my story, usually just send my brother “snaps.” Does it make me old if I say that? “I sent you some snaps.”

-I had to do homework the other day. Payton’s daycare sent us home a note saying we had to do an About Me poster. It was supposed to have things Payton likes on it, either pictures/drawings, whatever. I think we ignored it (or tossed the paper in the garbage), but then the daycare kept giving us notes asking where it was. So the other morning, I am cutting pictures apart and gluing stuff to construction paper. Damn, she is one, how many hobbies and interests can she have at this point? It turned alright, I cut out a chicken nugget, banana, Samson, us, Minnie Mouse, and her puppy. I thought about finding a picture of something really insane, but decided against it…did not need a phone call from the daycare (or police) “why are you allowing Payton to watch Human Centipede?”

-Did anyone see that the MLBPA filed a grievance against teams for not spending enough money (specifically revenue sharing funds). One of the teams was the Pirates, and as much as I agree with the players association, they will never be able to prove anything. The rules state that the money must be spent improving the team. The Pirates will just say they invested money into upgrading facilities, hiring more international scouts, investing in player development at the lower levels, etc. And be honest, do you think MLB cares? If it looks like public opinion starts to really go against the Pirates, they will sign one of the remaining free agents. No, not someone like Arrieta. Instead, they will sign Jake Peavy or John Lackey. Or perhaps Trevor Rosenthal. They can point to that signing and say “see, we went out and spent some money!”

Honestly, I think they should try to offer Arrieta a one-year, $15 million deal. Tell him that if he dominates like he did a few years ago, he would be a free agent next year and teams may be willing to open up the checkbooks. Why not? What do they have to lose? They got the $50 million from the Disney deal, use a little of that money. Make fans happy.

-I did not expect this gun debate to actually ever get anywhere. This Parkland shooting is definitely a turning point and I am curious to see where things go from here. These kids have been great at standing up and demanding action. I have been interested in the newest part of the story, about how the armed guard failed to go inside. In this age of “police can do no wrong”, it is odd to see the most ardent conservatives, ripping law enforcement apart. And yet, when a black person is shot by the police, these same people stick with the police no matter what. I kid you not, people who I know for a fact defended the police over Tamir Rice by saying things like “the kid had a toy gun, the cop cannot take a chance by getting out of the car to check to see if it is real or not”, are now saying “this guy was a coward, he should have ran into the building and put his life on the line!” Am I the only person who finds this odd? Do not risk your life to confirm a gun is real, but rush in blindly toward an active shooter? I am not defending the Parkland officer (deputy, sheriff, whatever) or anything like that, just noticing where the line is drawn.

-And finally, I am hoping in the next few weeks to have some good news. I am going to leave it at that and be super vague.

Have a great day everyone! Enjoy some Beastie Boys…
