How Did I Do?–2023 Football Predictions

I make a bunch of football predictions throughout the year. Some good, some not so much. How did I do this year? I had some solid moments, but also some big misses.

Draft
I did not have a great mock draft. But, I want to brag about something. I took Stroud first, because I thought he was the better quarterback. I kept flipping back-and-forth between them because I could not decide which route the Panthers would go. Also, in my post, I mentioned that the Texans may be sneaky and do something shocking…AND THEY DID! Just not what I expected, they traded up for the 3rd pick as well.

30 of my 31 picks ended up being drafted in either the first or second round. 22 picks in the 1st round, which is definitely not my best performance. Only one person ended up not going in the first two rounds (Kelee Ringo, who went in the 4th round, yikes). I managed seven of the top ten.

I did not pick any player in the correct spot and team. I did managed to pick two players to the right team, but the wrong round (Ringo to the Eagles, and John Michael Schmitz to the Giants).

Pick ‘Em
I was better in Pick ‘Em this year. I finished in second place with a 145-134 record. I did not make much money with my underdog predictions this year. But I did manage to hit well with my bet in the Super Bowl of a non-qb to throw a TD pass. That netted me $75, so at least I ended the year up money.

NFL Predictions
This has to be my worst year ever. I only picked 4/32 places in the league. I had two division winners (Bills and Chiefs). I picked the Steelers to earn the wild card. In the playoffs, I did predict the Steelers to play the Bills in the first round. The 49ers did beat the Lions, but I had that game happening in the division round. I also took the Chiefs and 49ers in their respective championship games, but I had them losing. Awards were a bust for me, but I took TJ Watt to win DPOY and some people would argue that he should have won.

Last year I said that I would come up with a system to track my picks. I did not come up with a system. So we will just have to go by conference and see how I did.
Big Ten: Michigan, Maryland, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois (7)
SEC: Georgia*, Florida, Vanderbilt, Alabama*, Texas A&M* (5)
Big XII: Texas, Oklahoma*,BYU (3)–Kansas State record
ACC: Florida State (1)–I messed up thinking they had divisions
PAC12: Oregon (1)
Sun Belt: Troy, Louisiana, ULM (3)
AAC: Temple *
MWC: Boise State  (1)–oops again with the divisions
MAC: Ohio, Akron (1)

A little worse than last year. I picked 22 places correctly, and managed five records. I did well with the awards, getting four correct (Biletnikoff Award–Marvin Harrison Jr.; John Mackey Award–Brock Bowers; Ray Guy Award–Tory Taylor; Paul Hornung Award–Travis Hunter). I also picked Michigan to win the National Championship, but I had them playing Florida State.
