A New Member of the Family

I would like to take a moment to introduce everyone to our newest member of the family: Edith. She is a two-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog/Poodle mix (a Bernedoodle). She is a rescue, who is very timid and scared. We brought her home today on an extended foster to adopt period. She ran away from her last foster home, and I am not sure about her previous life before that, but she is very timid and shy. She was filthy, and seems to be very skinny. We gave her a bath tonight (that was a totally different experience than bathing Samson!) and the amount of dirt (and probably dried poop) coming off her was insane.

Okay, so how did this come to be?

Well, a year or so ago, Lindsey mentioned that she wanted to get another dog. She follows some of the shelters in the area, and there came a point last year that a dog popped up that she wanted to get. She sent it to me, and I was like “yeah, do it!” But when she sent a message, the dog was already adopted. I know, not much of a story, and it was not like we were actively searching for a dog. We have had conversations, I mentioned that if we got a second dog, I would want to do a rescue instead of buying another dog from a groomer.

From time to time, Lindsey sends me posts of dogs, but nothing every jumped out to us. Last Friday, Lindsey sent me the post about Edith, and at first I just said “aww, cute.” Then later that night, I read the post again. I asked if she was serious about getting her? Lindsey said she was not sure. So I told her to reach out, and learn what the process is for adopting a dog. The shelter got back to her quickly and had her fill out an application. Lindsey did, then scheduled a time to come meet Edith. She went to Altoona on Wednesday. She spent time with her, and told them she wanted to move forward. They were only willing to place her with a family that had another dog (I guess Edith is very good with other dogs), so they needed Samson and the kids to meet her. Unfortunately, I worked on Friday, but Lindsey and the kids were able to take Samson there. I guess it was a good visit because Lindsey sent me a picture of Edith in the car.

Now, it sounds like the car ride home was fun. Edith broke out of the seatbelt strap we have, jumped in the front, landed on Samson, then kept trying to climb on Lindsey. She had to get off the next exit and call me. I was leaving work soon, and was going to meet them, but Lindsey went a back way, and was able to make it home. Funny thing. Lindsey kept saying that Edith is not much bigger than Samson (they weigh about the same). HAHAHHAHAHA! She is way bigger than Sam! I had to run to Petco to buy a new crate because we thought Sam’s would work.

We told the kids on Wednesday after softball practice. They were beyond excited. We went to Petco after dinner, and Payton wanted to buy everything. Payton really wants this dog to be hers. She keeps saying “you know how Samson follows mommy around, well I hope Edith follows me, or sleeps in my bed with me.” The crate is in the living room, and Payton wanted to sleep on the couch tonight. Lindsey said that when they got to the shelter, they went back to meet Edith, and since she is shy, she would not come over to anyone, but for some reason, as soon as they went inside the room, Edith went right over to Payton. So maybe Payton will get her wish.

The Croyle Family continues to grow…first we got Samson. Then we had Payton and Logan. After that came Pickles & Bluey. Now we have Edith.
