Festival Weekend!
Lindsey and I started our vacation this weekend. Yes, another vacation! Before you ask, I get four weeks per year, plus another week that I purchase. Lindsey gets three weeks, plus she also buys a week. It feels like there are a ton because they were so bunched together. We did not take one until May this year (normally we take one in March or April). We held off because of COVID, in case one of the kids got sick and had to quarantine and we needed to take the week off.
Anyways, on Saturday we went to Pittsburgh. We were supposed to go to the National Aviary, but as we were leaving, I received an email saying there was an emergency and the Aviary would be closed. The emergency turned out to be an escaped sea eagle. Yikes, I hope they find it before it eats someone’s cat or dog.
Instead, we went to the Carnegie Science Center. We went with Payton’s friend from daycare/preschool (and his family, it would be weird if he just drove himself). It was a cool place. The robot section was incredible and I loved the history of cinematic robots. Payton enjoyed the Lego section (although she says that she liked whatever area Connor liked). Logan loved the area that had the balls that you could shoot up onto the roof and then make them fall back down. He would have stayed there all day. Also, he enjoyed the different water tables.
After that we went to eat, then headed to the zoo for the Asian Lantern Festival. I saw something about it on Facebook and thought it looked cool. So I sent it to Lindsey and she was like “yeah, we already got tickets for it.” Damn, I should know better than to doubt my wife when it comes to Fall and what is happening in the entire state.
The lantern festival was incredible. I was not sure what to expect, but they looked fantastic and the way it was set up made for a fun walk around the zoo. Also, when we first arrived, it was light enough out that you could see animals still. The tiger was walking around and we could also see the lynx family moving around under the rocks.
The next day we got up and Lindsey wanted to go to Ligonier for donuts from The Pie Shoppe. She said there was not much going on that day, so we could probably have a relaxing day watching football. And then she saw people posting pictures of Harvest Fest at Delgrosso’s. How did she forget about that one? Well, that was it, we got ready and went down after eating delicious donuts.
A funny thing about Delgrosso’s Amusement Park is that my kids hate rides and when we go, Payton does the water stuff and that is it. I assumed this time would be quick because we would just go in, look at fall stuff, then head home. Yeah right! For some reason, both kids got over their fear of rides. Payton rode all the small rides (she even rode the helicopters, which I thought for sure she would still fear). Logan loved riding the cars, the fish, and the boats (he loved the boats last time, but that was the only one he would ride). Kids are weird.
There was also a petting zoo there. Payton and Logan both ran to each goat, sheep, donkey, and whatever else was there and petted them and in some cases cuddled right up to them. They definitely have no fear of animals. We played some games and checked out some crafts, then we ate some food. But then after that…it was time for more rides! Yayyyy. We were there until almost closing time. The kids had a great time. And I spared myself the agony of watching the Steelers, so we all won!
The rest of the week will probably be jam packed with more fun stuff. I cannot wait!
