Friday Five–Bluey!

I think I have mentioned before how much I enjoy watching Bluey with the kids. They always want to know which episode is my favorite (I tend to like episodes that resonate with me emotionally–whereas they love episodes that make them laugh). I decided to sit down and ranked my top twenty favorite episodes. It was an incredibly tough task, since I like almost every episode.

I should mention that I am not including The Sign since it is like four episodes in length (plus I have written about it before), and since that episode is a culmination of the events in Relax and Stickbird, I must lump them all together, and say that they hold a special place in my heart.
I should also mention that the image is supposed to be me in the style of Bluey. I am not sure why AI decided to give me three arms.
Okay, here we go!!!
20. Fairies–(S1 Ep30)–The kids enjoy this one, and it is definitely funny. I love how committed Bandit and Chilli are to the bit.
19. Cafe–(S2 Ep35)–The relationship between dads is spot-on. Hell, this is really how male friendships past the age of 30 usually go.
18. Magic–(S3 Ep10)–I believe this is Payton’s favorite.
17. Easter–(S2 Ep52)–I feel like this is Logan’s favorite, but he swears he changed it to his third. The Easter Bunny forgot them the previous year, but this year sends them on a scavenger hunt.
16. BBQ–(S1 Ep7)–One of those hilarious episodes that also has a nice message. All Bingo wants to do is relax, but she keeps having to get stuff for the salad at the pretend BBQ. I love when Bingo screams at the family to remember the salads, they are hard to make too!
15. Christmas Swim–(S2 Ep51)–The entire family together, plus we learn that Frisky and Rad are together! I also love the brotherly “Are you sure you know how to do the crackling?”
14. Faceytalk–(S3 Ep24)–A silly episode that does what the show does best, sneaks in something deep for the parents. Part of the story is Stripe and Trixie arguing about parenting. I think all parents can watch that background scene and relate.
13. Camping–(S1 Ep43)–Jean-Luc! I love the flash-forward, teenage Bluey sitting under the tree she and her friend planted, then a voice “hallo Bluey.” And thus began the theories of Jean-Luc as her future love.
12. Dance Mode–(S2 Ep1)–Such a fun episode, plus we get some great Bandit moments in the post office (his dancing, plus the entire interaction is amusing).
11. Baby Race–(S2 Ep50)–This episode always bring a tear to my eye. The pressure new parents feel to hit those milestones. And then Bella shows up and lets Chilli know that she is doing great, trust her, she has eight kids.
10. Wagon Ride–(S1 Ep24)–Bandit takes the girls to the playground. Very relatable episode the Bluey being impatient, and then the kids coming up with a new game instead of what they wanted to do.
9. Grannies–(S1 Ep28)–Can Grannies floss? Janet and Rita are always fun, but the lesson here is great: being right is not always as important as playing the game.
8. Double Babysitter–(S2 Ep39)–Uncle Rad and Frisky both show up to babysit the girls, but they decide to both stay. And we get some flirting between the two, especially over hair-care products.
7. Daddy Dropoff–(S2 Ep8)–Another flash-forward at the end, Bingo and Lila stay friends for a long time. Plus, this episode has one of those nice lessons for parents: sometimes it is okay to indulge your kids, to provide them with a little joy.
6. Family Meeting–(S3 Ep23)–The banned episode! All about farting. The entire episode cracks me up, especially some of the food items Bandit lists.
5. Fairytale–(S3 Ep26)–My kids always ask if the 80s really were wild. The answer is definitely yes. This episode captures sibling rivalry, growing up back in those days, as well as the infallibility of memory (did Chilli actually meet Bandit, or is he misremembering?).
4. Born Yesterday–(S3 Ep6)–A fun game turns into Bandit having a moment. There are some hilarious moments, like eating Lucky’s dad’s pie.
3. Rain–(S3 Ep18)–I love this one! The kids hate it. It is beautiful. No words, just Bluey trying to divert the water in a rainstorm, and music playing.
2. Pass the Parcel–(S3 Ep14)–“We’re raising a nation of squibs!” Lucky’s dad (Pat) hates that the modern version of the game is played with every layer having a prize. I just love how the kids gradually accept his version, then clamor for it. The episode feels like it could be something any of us dads would say at a kids birthday party.
1. Cricket–(S3 Ep47)–It makes me cry, it makes me smile. Rusty loves cricket, and as the episode progresses we learn why. I love that Rusty finally allows his little sister to get him out (even though the dads could not get him out), and we eventually see a flash-forward of Rusty as a professional cricket player. Also, dads being overly competitive and wanting to get a kid out? Totally relatable.
