Thunderbolts*

Logan and I went to see Thunderbolts* on opening night. It just so happened that Payton and Lindsey were going to a ballet thing, so it was a boys night out. Logan and I watched Infinity War and Endgame recently, but there are still a ton of movies he has not seen. He enjoyed it though, and only asked a few questions (he was confused about the whole Captain America thing, but I explained it all when we left the theater).

I really enjoyed the movie. I loved how much depression and emotional well-being played into the story. Instead of the big enemy being some evil being trying to destroy a city, it was something within someone’s mind. Definitely a nice change of pace, and this is the route I want the MCU to take: movies that fit into different genres, but with a superhero aspect.

I am no longer sure what phase we are in (is this the end of phase five?), but I like where things are going. I highly suggest going to see it.

Okay, now onto the things I liked/disliked…there will definitely be spoilers.

-The way the characters meet up: they are all sent to kill each other. I liked it. I enjoyed seeing Yelena, Taskmaster, US Agent, and Ghost battling each other. The best part is when Bob just shows up.

-I did not like how quickly they ended Taskmaster. Granted, she was not a great take on the character, but it would have been nice to let her have a bigger role.

-I loved the original Sentry comic (I think the mini-series by Paul Jenkins), and I thought the movie did a great job of showing how he is The Void and the Sentry.

-The movie had the right amount of comic relief, mainly with Red Guardian. It did not make the mistake of other MCU films where the silliness becomes too much at times. And they did not make him just a buffoon, he ends up saving a little girl.

-It was obvious that the asterisk meant the team would really be called the New Avengers (also, the beef with Sam–will his team be the Mighty Avengers?).

-The battle between Sentry and the team was great. I love seeing a Superman type character just being powerful, and putting in almost no effort against regular heroes. I hope Bob can get his mind right before Doomsday or Secret Wars happen.

-The battle inside The Void was interesting. It was apparent that the key would be accepting the darkness inside, not pushing it down, and remembering that you have people to lean on for help.

-Logan loved the post-credit scene…when he saw the spaceship he was like “DAD, IT’S THE FANTASTIC FOUR!”

I still think my theory about the FF movie is accurate: Galactus will destroy the planet, the Fantastic Four will escape to the MCU, but tearing a hole in the multiverse will alert Galactus to the other Earths (he will develop a taste for Earth, and decide to feast on all of them…I bet he destroys another Earth where Doom lives, which causes Doom to hate Reed Richards).
