Decades Project: 2010s Movie–The Founder

The story about the founder of McDonald’s. Yeah, I know the other day I said that I do not usually like biopics, but I do not think this fits into that genre. I mean, this movie is not a puff piece about how great Ray Kroc was, but instead lets us know just how ruthless he was, while at the same time having us root for him to succeed. Probably why I love the movie, it deals in those gray areas of life.

It is also the kind of movie that you will think about every time you go to McDonald’s. The cool little things about how it started, the innovations by the McDonald brothers, and the changes Kroc made. Funny thing, I watched the movie around the same time as I listened to an episode of Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast, Revisionist History, where he talked about how McDonald’s french fries used to be great, but now they suck. It had to do with the trans-fat, and the episode focused on that, but it was cool hearing the taste tests they did with young people who never had the old fries…

So grab a few Big Macs, fries, and a large chocolate shake, sit back, and enjoy an excellent Michael Keaton performance.
