Game of Thrones–Shared Universe Stories

Sometimes when I am bored, I start watching videos about Game of Thrones, or more specifically about ASOIAF. Then I have this habit of diving into the stories from The World of Ice & Fire, and I feel like there are sooooo many stories you expand on about the history of Westeros, or really the entire ASOIAF world.

This is my fantasy: GRRM allows other authors to write stories set in this universe. Obviously he would have editorial control (which I think he could have Elio Garcia & Linda Antonsson be the editors). As long as the stories are set in the past, they do not interfere with GRRM’s current story.

And honestly, good writers could tell different kinds of stories in this world. Something light and funny, a romantic story, or maybe a horror tale. I would love to read stories about the criminal underbelly of Westeros, especially during the time of Aegon the Conqueror (remember what Bronn says about a siege–the criminals become rich because they steal all the food). I think there could be some interesting stories from that perspective. Or whatever. Like I said, it is a big world, and more importantly, an even longer history. 

Think of the Star Wars expanded universe back in the day, but with more solid editorial control. 

I am just spit-balling here, but who else would read stories set in this universe if they were written by different authors?
